Stratford-upon-Avon Visitor GuideThe information presented on these Stratford pages is based on the Stratford-upon-Avon Street Map and Guide Stratford-upon-Avon in Warwickshire, England is, of course, famous for William Shakespeare. Stratford is a beautiful small market town with plenty of character and a friendly atmosphere.
Any visit to Stratford should begin with a visit to the Stratford Tourist Information Centre. Of the Shakespearean properties, Shakespeare's Birthplace is a must see, as is Anne Hathaway's Cottage. The other Shakespearean properties are New Place, Mary Arden's, and Hall's Croft. Anne Hathaway's Cottage and Mary Arden's House are some way out of Stratford, so one of the best and most economical ways of seeing them is on an Open-Top Bus Tour, or by taxi. The Royal Shakespeare Theatre should not be missed -- even if you can't see a play (it is best to book well in advance), there is still plenty to see and do there. Other places of interest include the Holy Trinity Church where Shakespeare is buried, Harvard House where the founder of Harvard University was born, The Stratford Tales and the Butterfly Farm.
