The City of Lancaster Visitor GuideThe information presented on the Lancaster pages is based on the Lancaster City Centre Street Map and Guide Lancaster is situated in one of the most beautiful parts of England. With the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales, Morecambe and Morecambe Bay and the Trough of Bowland all within a half hours drive, Lancaster makes an ideal touring base.
Lancaster itself is a mix of the old and the new. There is plenty to see, including Lancaster Castle, Lancaster Priory, the Roman Bath House and Wery Wall, the Judge's Lodgings, Cottage Museum and Lancaster City Museum all within five minutes walk of each other. The award-winning Maritime Museum on the banks of the Lune is well worth a visit, as is Williamson Park with its butterfly house and the Ashton Memorial. Lancaster's arts scene is thriving: watch a film at the Dukes Cinema or the ABC Cinema, see a play at The Dukes Theatre, the Grand Theatre or the Nuffield on the Lancaster University campus. And don't miss the Promenade Season in Williamson Park. Regular events include the Easter Maritime Festival, the Folklore Fiesta, and the Lancaster Literature Festival.
