ANNUAL EVENTS:

Annual events include the North of England Head of the River Race and the Chester Film Festival in March. In May there is a Folk Festival, the Chester Half Marathon, the Lord Mayor's Show, and one of the largest vintage vehicle gatherings at the Festival of Transport. June sees the Young Musicians Festival, the St. Werburgh Festival, and the oldest Rowing Regatta in the world. In July the Chester Fringe, Summer Music Festival, and River Carnival and Raft Race take place. In October there is the Chester Literature Festival, British Film Week and the International Mozart Festival. In December the Christmas Lights can be seen, and there is the Christmas Street Festival. Chester Races are held at least once a month from May to September. The Mystery Plays are performed in Chester every five years, next in 2002.
