Tours around Chester

WALKING TOURS provide a perfect introduction to Chester and are available daily. They are led by a trained "Blue Badge" guide. Tickets are available at the departure points. For more details and to book special group tours and tours in other languages, Tel: 402445.

The Pastfinder Tour is a walk through the 2000 year history of Chester, leaving Chester Visitor Centre (D4) at 10.30am daily May to October (Saturday and Sunday only from November to February), and at 2.15pm Monday to Saturday (May to October only). The tour can be joined at the Town Hall 15 mintes later.

The Ghosthunter Trail explores Chester's haunted heritage, leaving the Chester Visitor Centre (D4), Wednesday to Saturday at 7.30pm from May to October.

The Roman Soldier Wall Patrol _ join a legionary in full armour for an unusual guided tour around Roman Chester, leaving CVC at 1.45pm and 2pm from the Town Hall Thursday to Saturday (June to August).

OPEN TOP BUS TOURS: The Guide Friday Chester Tour (green and cream buses) lasts about an hour and you are accompanied by a Guide Friday professional guide. An optional 30 minute cruise on the River Dee with a taped commentary run by Bithell's Boats is also available. The tour operates every day from March to October. It leaves at frequent intervals (at least every 15 minutes in the summer) from the Railway Station (E1) and the other stops along the route (see the map for the locations of stops). Tickets are available from Chester Visitor Centre (D4), the Bus Station (B2), the Tourist Information Centre (B3) and on the bus. The tickets are valid all day and you may get on or off the bus at any of the tour stops as often as you like. Tel: 347457.

BOAT TRIPS AND BOAT HIRE: Bithell's Boats Ltd run 30 minute cruises on the River Dee every 15 minutes during the season. Longer cruises of 2 hours duration sail daily at 11am, and on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 8pm, to Ironbridge through the Eaton Estate, home of the Duke of Westminster. Tel: 325394 or 400327 for more information. All cruises depart from the Boating Station, Souters Lane (D4).
